About your role
As a Business Controller at Fairphone, you are the connecting force between finance and the organization. You transform financial data into clear insights and concrete recommendations that help teams make better decisions.
You will be part of the Finance team and work closely with Commercial, Operations, Product, and Impact teams. You will support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and business case development. You ensure financial discipline while enabling innovation and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives
Key Objectives
  • Act as a strategic finance partner to key departments.
  • Strengthen financial planning, forecasting, and performance tracking.
  • Develop and challenge business cases for new initiatives and investments.
  • Improve financial visibility and data-driven decision-making across teams.
  • Contribute to long-term financial sustainability and mission alignment.

Your Key Responsibilities  
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles for assigned departments.
  • Develop, evaluate, and challenge business cases (e.g., product launches, commercial initiatives, operational improvements).
  • Translate financial data into actionable insights and clear recommendations.
  • Analyze performance drivers (revenue, margin, cost structure, working capital).
  • Monitor KPIs and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Support scenario modelling and long-term planning.
  • Collaborate closely with Accounting to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting and financial processes.
  • Support management with ad-hoc analysis and strategic projects.
Core Activities
  • Reviewing weekly performance dashboards and identifying key trends.
  • Preparing a business case for a new product or commercial initiative.
  • Meeting with Commercial or Operations teams to review performance and forecasts.
  • Updating rolling forecasts based on new assumptions.
  • Supporting management with financial scenario modelling.
  • Aligning with Accounting on monthly closing and variance analysis.
Your Skills & Experience
  • You have a minimum of 4–7 years of experience in Business Controlling, FP&A, Strategy & Finance, or a similar analytical role.
  • You have some formal training in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree).
  • You have strong financial modelling and analytical skills.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • You are able to translate complex financial information into clear business insights.
  • You are proactive, structured, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment.
  • You are comfortable challenging assumptions and acting as a critical sparring partner.
  • Preferably, you are familiar with working with macOS, Google Workspace, and Basecamp.
