About your role
The Reuse and Recovery Manager is primarily responsible for executing tasks related to the recovery and reuse of Fairphone products, contributing to circular economy initiatives. This role involves a significant focus on operational delivery and task execution within Fairphone's take-back programs, device refurbishment processes and repurpose strategies within the Circular operations team, part of the broader Operations Services department. This role is dedicated to expanding the circularity of our products by optimizing the reverse logistics flow, maximizing device recovery, and enhancing the quality and volume of refurbished products for resale. This position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Commercial team, Product team, Impact team, and others.
Key Responsibilities & Objectives
Key Responsibilities 
  • Refurbishment Operations: Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of device and spare parts refurbishment, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to established standards. 
  • Take-Back Programs: Develop, implement, and manage our take-back programs for collecting End of Life (EOL) or used Fairphone products from customers. This involves coordinating logistics, communication, buyback values and onboarding new products and/or processes into our take-back programs. 
  • Spare parts harvesting: Implement and manage processes to recover and reuse functional components from returned or end-of-life products, maximizing resource utilization and minimizing waste.
  • End of life management: Review End of Life (EOL) scenarios for products, considering demand, repair graded inventory, and units available for dismantling, to determine necessary harvesting and repair strategies.
  • Business Case Development: Develop and present business cases for new reuse and recovery initiatives, outlining potential financial impact.
Key Objectives
The objective of the role is to design, analyze and continuously improve and set up processes relevant to take-back, refurbishment and reuse initiatives. 
  • Execute and Optimize Fairphone's Circular Programs: Drive the effective execution of tasks and operational deliveries within the Fairphone Reuse and Recycling program and the company's refurbishment processes.
  • Strategic Contribution: Provide expert input on circular initiatives, ensuring that recovery and reuse perspectives are integrated into the product life cycle of Fairphone’s products.
  • Program Implementation and Management: Oversee the smooth implementation and ongoing management of programs focused on product lifecycle extension and responsible end-of-life processes.
  • Enable Circular Growth: Actively support the Circular Operations team in scaling up their circular initiatives, ultimately contributing to increased value for the company.
Core Activities
  • Lead take-back program/processes 

    • Manage the recycling partner’s relationship. 

    • Program performance review (Including operational and financial KPIs).

    • Onboard new Fairphone products in the program.

    • Monitor and update Fairphone model’s buy-back values.

    • Benchmarking of external buy-back schemes to identify improvements. 

    • Support in mapping new take-back processes.

    • Implement recovery programs to support EOL needs.

  • Lead Refurbishment processes

    • Carry out continuous refurbishment of Fairphone devices and spare parts.

    • Manage relationships with external partners for refurbishment services.

    • Elaborate Standard operating procedures for device refurbishment  (SOP)

    • Lead and coordinate with cross-functional teams on the availability of refurbished products for sales. 

    • Elaborate refurbishment business case (Including operational and financial KPIs).

    • Program performance review.

  • Collaborate End of life management 

    • End of Life (EOL) analysis to identify stock gaps and identify clear recover and repurpose strategy. 

    • Collaborating with other teams (Supply chain, Sales, Product) to ensure alignment on recovery and reuse initiatives.

  • Support the Circular Operations team 

    • Work closely with the Circular operations team lead to scale Fairphone's circular strategy for Fairphone products. 

    • Collaborating with other teams (e.g., C-ops team lead, Service operations manager) to ensure alignment on recovery and reuse initiatives.

    • Collaborate with our Operations Support Officer on administrative tasks.

Your Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience of at least 3 years in managing day-to-day operations.  Experience in refurbishment/reverse logistics is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of circular economy principles, product lifecycle management, and sustainable practices.

  • Experience with KPI management and program performance review, including operational and financial metrics.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and manage operational processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Experience in implementing reuse, recycling, and take-back programs is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage complex programs and projects from conception to execution.

  • Proven ability to manage relationships with external partners (e.g., recycling partners, refurbishment services).

  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in developing and presenting business cases, including financial impact analysis.

  • Ability to provide expert input and consultation on circular initiatives, integrating recovery and reuse perspectives into product lifecycle and team strategy.
